NYC Office of Technology and Innovation has registered 86 AI systems across 62 organizations
New York City uses artificial intelligence and automated systems across many of the agencies that serve its residents, from housing and benefits to transportation and public safety. As these tools shape decisions that affect people's lives, New Yorkers deserve to understand how they work.
The team at the Office of Technology and Innovation, backed by Local Law 35 of 2022, has done a tremendous job documenting the use of AI systems in the city. This is our contribution, building on their work. It's an independent project and not affiliated with the City of New York.
We ran the Algorithmic Tools Compliance Report's compiled by OTI through an agent skill that translates regulatory documents into plain language, visual AI disclosures. The output is a register of AI and algorithmic systems used by City agencies, made easily shareable, filterable and understandable: what each system does, what risks it poses, who is accountable for it, and what rights and protections apply.
